5 years old

Katie turned 5 on Friday. We had a really good time taking her pictures this year and I love they way they turned out. Here are a few of my favorites.

The morning of her birthday I took her to get her hair done. Cathy, at Talk of the Town Salon in Boiling Springs, did an amazing job. Katie wouldn't let me wash her hair for 2 days.

I love birthdays!

A walk down memory aisle

Every once in a while Katie wants to take her money and buy something at the dollar store. Today she wanted a balloon. Usually they're $1 but today they had laytex baloons 4/$1. My smart girl knew exactly what she wanted. I was so glad she picked them because after that we were taking her 5 year old pictures. The balloons were the perfect touch.
We walked around the campus of Gardner-Webb University and got some great shots. While we were walking around I told her that her dad and I got married at the chapel on campus. She immediately started asking all kinds of questions about the day we got married and what it was like. The doors were open so we went inside and looked around. It was so sweet to be there with her and remember my special day as well as make a new memory with her.

I can't stop smiling

College was one of the best times of my life. I had so much fun, made some life long friends and met my husband. One of the things my girlfriends and I did to entertain each other was draw cartoons. Just little stick figure stories of dates we had or funny things that happen. I'm not sure how it started but it was so much fun. I've saved a few favorites and look at them when I need to laugh.

Today I got the mail, went through the regular bills and was so excited to see a real letter from my friend Brittany. I opened it and was overjoyed to find she made me a book and filled it with the same stick figure cartoons. I've had a few bad days lately and it's just what I needed today!

Sometimes an encouraging word or prayer is what you need, but today a stick figure book was even better!

Friday Fun

Yesterday Katie wanted to make rice krispy treats. I had all the ingredients at the house so we made some. After we finished I told her she could eat the leftovers from the bowl. Her face says it all!

No more

It's not often that I blog about my chronic and auto-immune diseases. They are part of my life, but I don't want that to become who I am. I currently have 3 chronic conditions: Crohn's disease, Rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia. The crohn's and RA have mostly been under control since the spring of last year. Last week I developed a heart problem. My heart rate increased for some unknown reason and since Wednesday I've been on bed rest until the problem is diagnosed. It's really easy to feel sorry for yourself when you're tired and on the couch most of the day. I let the feeling take me over, but today I decided that I am not my disease(s).
This morning I was reading some blogs and came across a great post on my friend Angie's page. Angie is an amazing writer and so creative, I can't say enough good things about her. She found these great and FREE craft projects. I may have to sit but there's no reason to sit and do nothing. Just because I'm on "bed rest" there are things I can do, and this project involved coloring. For some reason, coloring is very relaxing for me. So, I printed out the templates, we listened to Hanson and Hootie, had a great time making Katie's Paper City.

More ABC Art

Ever since I made the Gardner-Webb alphabet art I see letters everywhere. I had some free time this morning so I made these. I really like the way they turned out.
Contact me if you're interested in purchasing one of these, or I can create one for you.

Daddy's helper

We had a rare sunny and almost warm day yesterday. Katie and Dan went outside and when I came out I saw Katie helping pick up sticks. I just had to get a few pictures.
